I received projectiles with some visual staining. Is this normal, and will it affect performance?

Yes. Occasional cosmetic staining on projectiles can occur and is generally considered normal. In most cases, the staining is purely cosmetic and does not affect safety, accuracy, reliability, or overall performance.

What causes the staining?

Cosmetic staining is most commonly observed on hollow-point projectiles. During the manufacturing and cleaning process, small amounts of water or cleaning solution can occasionally become trapped within the hollow point cavity.

If all moisture is not completely removed during the drying and polishing stages, minor discoloration may develop after the projectiles have been packaged.

Will it affect performance?

No. Cosmetic staining does not affect the projectile's dimensions, weight, ballistic performance, accuracy, expansion characteristics, or safety.

These projectiles remain fully functional and are suitable for their intended use.

Can the staining be removed?

If the appearance is a concern and you are comfortable with a do-it-yourself approach, the projectiles can often be restored to a brighter finish using corn cob media in a vibratory tumbler.

Many reloaders also choose to simply use cosmetically stained projectiles as practice or fouling rounds since the discoloration has no impact on performance.

Quality control

We make every effort to identify and remove projectiles exhibiting cosmetic staining during our inspection and packaging processes. However, because the staining may develop after the final polishing stage, a small number may occasionally make their way into packaged products.

Need assistance?

If the staining is more significant than you feel is acceptable, or if you have concerns about the condition of your projectiles, please open a support ticket and include photographs. Our team will be happy to review the situation and assist you.
